A Thirst for Thrifting

     Thrifting is when someone shops at thrift stores, yard sales, or flea markets where you can find amazing items for affordable prices. Thrifting has become a big part of my fashion journey. Most of my wardrobe is filled with thrifted finds. When thrifting it takes patience, especially if you're trying to find a particular item. But it's worth the frustration, because who doesn't love a good thrift find?  To help with your next thrift trip, here are 6 tips on how to become a thrift QUEEN or use it as a BEGINNERS guide.

1. Remember Thrifting Takes Time.

When it comes to thrifting, you're gonna spend some time if you want to find good items.  Always be patient. It takes time to look through piles and racks of clothing. Make sure you find a routine to have enough time while thrifting because you have to learn how to manage your time in certain sections. Searching through every piece of clothing will take forever, to make your way through the store you can scan through a rack that stands out to you like colors, patterns, or even textures.

2. Create a Vision.

Thrifting can be overwhelming at times. Before entering a place where you thrift, plan what you want to find. It’s important to have a vision for your fashion inspo because it will make it easier to find what you want.

3. Have an open mind.

Don’t be afraid to buy items you thought you would never wear (I had those moments where I thought something was cute but I would never wear it.) or brands. Give everything a chance because it can have potential. If you attend a thrift store, there are a lot of options and you can find something that is different to you.

4. Don’t doubt the MEN’s section.

In my opinion the men’s section is the best part of a thrift store. You can find some cool pieces from the men’s section. Some good items you can always find are graphic tees, sweatshirts, hoodies, jackets, jeans, athleisure, and even vintage items! On your next thrift trip, you should make your way to the men’s section.

5. Be willing to Alter or Revamp your thrifted items.

If you like an item that's too big or doesn’t fit you like you want, don’t worry there is a solution to that problem. You can alter the clothing item to make it better by your standards. When people buy thrifted items that need to be fixed that is called a thrift flip.

(A thrift flip is having an item that is thrifted and improving it to make it look modern or fashionable.) For example, Cutting high waisted jeans into shorts, long tees into crop tops and even turning long skirts into mini skirts.

6. Be on the lookout for sales.

It’s important to find the sales that are going on at your local thrift stores. If you don’t pay attention to sales, you may miss the opportunities of good deals. Most thrift stores have specific days when certain items are on sale. Sales are the best!
